Chinguetti
Chinguetti is a central point in the Sahara Nomads route map: a historic caravan city and library town that can be explored by 4x4 or used as the beginning of a slower journey on foot.
A place within a wider Adrar journey
On the seven-day Adrar route, Chinguetti sits between the oasis country and the journey toward Ouadane and the Richat Structure. Longer expeditions connect it with the Tagant, the mining north or the Atlantic coast.
This context matters. Reaching Chinguetti through changing desert landscapes gives the old city a different meaning than treating it as an isolated stop.
From Chinguetti to caravan pace
Two Sahara Nomads journeys use Chinguetti as the threshold to camel-supported travel. Caravan to Terjit continues through Gueila oasis, Erg Lemghaleg, plateaus and valleys. Lemghaleg: Beyond the Road leaves the vehicle route for several remote caravan stages.
These are active expeditions rather than sightseeing add-ons. Walking time, equipment support and suitability are discussed before a booking is confirmed.
